I pity the foo that don't like this thread ... ?

To the OP: Well said, and *so* glad not to hear a rant/whining. I feel the same.

Can we, say, have this post framed and sent to ANet?

Dunno what ppl's problem is..
We do not begrudge you the chance you had to get yours, no one is - but other people have something called: L I V E S (ya know, work, kids, college, family, a son turning 1... *sighs* You likely wouldn't know what I am talking about since you thought the OPs post was about just the mask.... )

And the ONLY shot that some of us had at the masks was the last go but it came early!

not to mention the HUGE confusion over it lasting 3-4extra days that lulled everyone into a false sense of hope only for us to find out that was a misunderstanding because GWs Devs can't "communicate" propperly with others (See other posts in this thread such as: CE, Extra code given to EBgames and such places, and stuff on that sort >_>).

By the time we found out that the news was wrong it was almost too late - I had 30mins to get myself and my husband some fangs! I made it by the skin of my teeth and there were still some real pieces of work in there selling fangs while others begged for anyone with leftovers!
I had a guildie that I still don't know if he got his - I almost missed the emperor trying to get a few extra fangs for him (he is a tow truck driver and always on call - He still may not have gotten his..... ;_.... It hurt me to tell those that showed up wondering when the emperor would come that it was too late he was gone and that was his last visit...

Others continued to collect Naga Fangs in vain (my brother included).
And still those wonderful pieces of work were trying to pedal their naga fangs to anyone who didn't know it was over out of spite so they could make a buck (and probably sell it elsewhere)....

And you wonder why people are upset - Gaile can say what she wants and make any excuse she likes - [Properly edited about the laughing by my own free will - I was wrong and I am sorry Gaile for the misunderstanding!]

IF IT WAS SO FRIGGEN CLEAR THEN WHY ARE SO MANY STILL CONFUSED!

And the sad part is, it's not even about the stupid mask - its about Factions and the letdown it has been... About the alliance battles that are FUBR and only a crappy shell of the wonderful times they once were....
Its about the CE and how no one knows anything because through it all is ONE VERY HUGE LACK OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
and that is what the players are mad over... We can deal with the blunders but being kept in the dark and not told or warned about anything is hurting and pissing people off!

The fact that we shell out money so that the rich devs can laugh as they pull our strings...

At one point I thought they cared, but they only listen to the elitest now...
The elitest who make their game so grand...
The elitest who won't let the little guy be a hero anymore.... And through it all I thought that GW cared and that's why they made GW to start with!

Tien ak, you will have to forgive me but I do not recall which post/thread was yours - I have been posting in a lot of threads and voicing my opinion which is heard by only a few ;_; Would you be kind enough to remind me? I have been running across a lot of names and have only retained a few and my subscriptions to where I post seem not to update all the time.

Can someone summarize it in a way that is readable? So that looking at it doesn't make me want to kill myself?

To Guild Wars,

I'm a little nervous about writing to you like this. I always thought that we could just talk things out but--well, I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted to write to you, so that you could understand how I feel without us getting into another fight. I just wanna say a few things, if that's ok with you, and I hope you can hear what I'm saying without feeling hurt or attacked.

See, these past months with you have been awesome. My family really likes you--even my children, a five-year-old boy who says "Daddy, daddy, are you going to Ascalon?", and then I reply "No, I have to help a guildie through Thirsty River"... and my little girl, two-and-a-half years old, who comments in her sweet voice "Daddy healed! Good monk daddy." Even the kids love you, ya know?

Because of you, I met some amazing people. I've become fast friends with a student in Wisconsin--my family sent him cookies for his birthday two months ago while his parents were away. Also, next month we'll be having some guildies over for dinner from Ohio. I already vaguely knew one of them from another message board, but Guild Wars allowed me to meet his gaming friends from his engineering classes, and now we've formed our own independent circle. None of these friendships would have been possible without you.

It's just that... well, sometimes I just don't feel like you're listening, not really. Our relationship was founded on communication. You've made the point over and over again, that you care about my wants and my needs. This is part of what made us work so well together, I think.

The problem is, I'm not convinced that you really do; or, at least, you don't treat me like you used to. Nowadays, it seems like the ways you exclude me range from the mundane to blatantly inconsiderate. You whisper to me sweet assurances that you'll make everything alright, but... can I really trust you?

Problems like the recent mask event only serve to illustrate my worries. You knew that I, being the young stud that I am, would be in the middle of my college finals and writing multiple 5- and 10-page papers. You made the event as a special surprise thank you gift to Guild Wars fans for their support, and then gave me from 3am early Thursday until 3am early Friday to get the fangs for my character. Never mind that I had to collect a relatively large number of fangs, and that I had multiple characters I wanted to do this on. Oh, and I guess you just forgot that I had classes that morning, and work that afternoon, and then a group meeting for one of my classes scheduled for that evening. Do you just want me to drop all my plans, so that I can with you whenever you get one of your whims? Are you trying to punish me for having an outside life, forcing me to choose between you and my committments? I really appreciate these parties and games of yours, I really do... it's just, you don't give me enough time to prepare for them. I miss out and feel left out, while you come away thinking I didn't appreciate all your hard work.

I really want things to get better between us. I remember when we first saw the chilly landscapes of the Shiverpeaks together... and do you recall the picture I took when we took out our first dragon? And how excited we were when we finally faced PREZ for the first time in the Hall of Heroes? Man... I was so happy then...

But now, it's like I can't trust you... I feel like you're not talking to me while you work things out. GW, we entered into this together, and you know I want to see you succeed. I want to be there with you, so... talk to me, let me know what you're thinking. After celebrating the communication in our relationship, don't shut us out. We know you've done a few things wrong, but we're partners... aren't we? Then let's work together and find a solution to these things when they appear! And if you're going to reject what seems like a good solution, please at least let us know why, clearly. Don't hide behind that businesstalk of yours.... we love you, so let's be open with one another. For instance, the delay in Alliance chat--you came right out and told us that there was a bug, and you would have it fixed in a few days. THAT'S what I'm talking about: open, honest, accepting responsibility, and timely.

Look, GW... I'm not going to abandon you now. We're partners, and that means something to me--and I hope it means something to you, too. I just think that we need to communicate better if this is going to work. I'm seeing other people getting frustrated with you as well, and some walking out on you. I don't want to be one of those people, but... I just want to know that you really care about me the same way I care about you, right?

Signed,
Daniel Highwind [MEEP] Mo/Me

I realize that this post is prompted by a culmination of sorts, and the out-of-game screwups are a justifiable apex. For me, however, the turning point was the Wintersday event.

I expected the opportunity for special headgear to be as frequent and repeatable as the Halloween one, especially as all other aspects of Wintersday seemed time-conscious and user-friendly. Instead, I found out at 3PM on December 31st - after missing one chance completely - that it was a one day affair, and it "just happened" to be on New Year's, the day most people celebrate by not sitting in front of their computer at midnight.

The Halloween event showed me that Anet cared for real-life concerns; the Wintersday one showed me that it did not. I am greatly saddened that for the Canthan event the Wintersday scheme reared its ugly head once again, though I myself had no chance to participate in it. Would it have been bad to make the event last the whole weekend? Who would have been better off, and who would that decision have hurt?

I cannot say anything about CE as I myself care little for the extras it offers. In fact, I bought my Factions key online in order to avoid any potential messes at a game store. But if Anet's goal is - as they claim - to keep us hooked year after year and chapter after chapter, isn't it just plain good business to keep us, your customers, informed about the errors and the ways you're going about fixing them?

An informed customer emphasizes; an uninformed one rages. I know I would prefer informed customers to angry ones.

It was on a weekday. Most adults work Monday to Friday, 9-5. Many have other obligations (kids, for example). So having the emperor show up just once every three hours gave a lot of people only one or two opportunities to get a mask, if that, and certainly not enough time for more than a character or two because of the three quests. I booked an afternoon off work so I could get a few masks. I really feel for those who couldn't do that and missed out. I can understand why they're pissed.

*meeps* Redly and I have 3kids and its really hard enough trying to juggle guild wars... Even tho it says I am only 24/7 its usually me afk taking care of my little ones sitting in the guild hall waiting for someone to prod me for info or help... I got my one mask, but I would gladly give it to someone who didn't if it wasn't customized.... I just hated seeing so many people get shafted.

Loomy, its a letter dirrected in such a way as to not invoke anger while still being able to get across to ANET why we are upset!

Red you should have put that those under the age of 18 need not read cause they likely wouldn't get it.... I applaud those who did!

hehe it's about GW not communicating with it's players well enough and this is the reason for so many angry people. He highlight most of the reasons people are upset including himself but did so in a humorous manner so as not to offend which is more than most of us can do (especially myself).

And thank you for reading and at least attempting to understand... It was meant to be funny enough not to flare tempers but heartfelt enough to get the point across.
Anyways ^_^

A bit off topic, but because I saw a mention here, I wanted to explain something. I have to sleep. But before I do, I want to clear up that *snicker* thing. I was definitely and positively not snickering because someone didn't get a mask! The snicker was part of an exchange between a few of us about "priorities." Someone said he logged in at 11:55 and didn't get a mask. Someone else said "Man, I was here all day" and someone else was going on about "What were you THINKING not being here." And I chimed in with something about "You were doing something else during Day of the Tengu?"

No intention of offending, and positively no implication that someone not getting a mask was in any way amusing. The amusing part was us joking about being GW-obsessed, you see, and not eating, drinking, taking potty breaks... (sorry, probably TMI there )

I hope that explanation makes sense. I remember the exchange quite well, and I think if you saw the context, you'd understand it better. Forgive me if I gave anyone a misimpression as far as someone not getting a mask. I missed out with a char at Wintersday myself -- I totally understand that sick feeling of "Oh, dang, I am not going to get one!"

Thanks for reading, and, I hope, for better understanding what I was saying in that comment.

Yeah, ignore him and listen to the 10-year-olds. ^ ^

Just to point out, Tengu mask or no Tengu mask, I was barely able to get online key, as ANet+PlayNC managed to obscure the link rather succesfully. I know it's pretty hectic over there with release and things, but still...

The lack of communication with playerbase inevitably leads to disaster. I don't know what exactly to make of it in this particular case - I won't review Factions as of yet - it's still too early, as I didn't overplay myself during the weekend because of real life issues.

All I can say is that Cantha is indeed smaller (alot smaller??). The "more densely packed" doesn't really satisfy me - what should that mean? That there are more towns/outposts/missions per, lets say square "tile" (imaginary measuring unit). That directly means that there are less explorable areas in between, or the scale of the map is different. But as I said, I won't complain until I witness this myself.

No but if you had kids and they bypassed as you played don't ya think they learn? Our two year old daughter loves to watch games played whether on the computer or on TV.... She has a natural curiousity and want to learn.

We don't set her in front of the computer and let her play - good grief! But it does say a lot that she can figure out something so simple from watching us play so rarely and some of you cannot figure out a simple commical post that was meant to inspire and reach out to the REAL people (who aren't still in grade school!).

Nice post, man. /signed

Nice of Gaile to reply as well.

I get annoyed by the ppl who are always willing to defend Anet as if they can do no wrong. The herd mentality is oftentimes not good for the herd. If only they had 2 brain cells to rub together...

Out of all the games I have played, Guild Wars gets the most attention from the devs. And it doesn't even cost monthly. You may not like some of the things, and you may want things done faster, but they do listen and they do act.

Edit: When I say out of all the games, I am also talking about mmo's

In my opinion, setting Tengu Day on Thursday was a bad idea. What is more, number 250 was a little too much(150 would be ok). Emperor should come for 30 minutes, not 5 minutes. Some people were present at the moment of his arrival and they didn' get their mask because of all this crowd, or they just got confused "WTF is goin on!?", "What, where, who?" etc. I got mask on my 3 of 4 PvE characters. I got anough Fangs to get masks for all, but i couldn't get on time to relog and talk to emperor before he leaves. It was frustrating. I fell asleep in front of computer at 1 AM, while waiting with 250 Fangs in my inventory for his last arrival - pity...

I understand all parents - they work from Monday to Friday - it wasn't fair to set Tengu Day on thursday... At Xmass Event I could get 2 special items, because moment of giving items lasted longer. And it was ok. Make up something ArenaNet, these masks are quite cool .

Sry my english...

Factions was set to go live, Friday, the 28th. It would not be a head-start event if you have the event after the game officially goes live. It was my understanding that the event was extended through the weekend to allow players to get masks.

Also the Emperor showing up worked the same way in the Wintersday event, the later districts lagged behind the earlier districts. I sat through the whole procession and speech to get my mask, and I was in D2 or something. I jump over to D14 and the emperor was still making his procession to his stopping point. You had more than 5 minutes to get the mask. And you knew when the emperor was coming, why not show up a little early?

Thumbs up

Well on a postive note Gaile has proved that they do read these forums and she does listen to us, I mean come on she aplogised for crying out load and it takes some guts for someone who is as high up as Gaile to turn around and explain to us meegle folk what she really ment and apolgise which in my view makes me give a sigh of relief and all is forgiven

However...(the dreaded however ) and I know this will put petrol in the fire but they did it again by putting Mini pets in the game which basicly is a miniture version of a certain NPC in the game, you can only get these however if you played game since day 1 lucklily they are not customised and I have 3 which i hold dear and given them all pet names I have a siege turtle, a carrion devourer and a temple guardian which is like a white lion. So perhaps guild wars is finally being more user friendly and letting people who don't play the game 24/7 a chance to get some cool stuff.

I don't quite understand though if gaile got dissapointed that she couldn't have a character with Wintersday items then why did she agree on the idea of it being customised I mean even the masks are customised. It's proberly beacuse they think well its for the fans well I'll tell you one thing I havn't play this game since day 1 and I got the mini pets
People can want event items for loads of reasons I traded stuff for the candy cane weapons not beacuse i liked every single one no no no thats silly talk Nope I wanted to sell em I thought ok some people are going to miss out boo hoo hoo I'll sell em to people for like 2k and make some money! and yep it worked I made a fair amount of money out of the items and the only ones i've kept is the candy cane bow and shield (which are amazing items for low level anyway)

I find it very stupid people can't sell hats people want these items, I don't understand why arena net are customising the hats, I remeber when i missed the halloween event beacuse I was to much of a low level that sucked but what made my day when some random guy gave me his pumkin hat it felt amazing that someone was kind enough and had pity for the poor little low level ranger and gave him the pumkin. but then I couldn't wear it as it was customised so

Oh and on the reply to Eviance it was the 'Arena net how to turn the tables on Ebay" it got taken off one beacuse of this one nerd who had no idea what he was talking about flaming at me about my idea...im not going to say my idea here as i'll get flammed again (might need to take theropy again joke)

Also on the note of factions I havn't played much really beacuse I have only complete the game once and thats with my Ranger Tien ak (who did the end mission with hench i made add ^^ ) so getting right to into factions feels like jumping into the story even though i completed it and know what happens it just doesn't feel right you know?

My suggestion to people who are considering getting factions but are afraid of all this hate mail you've read (oh and it good reason for the hate mail) then buy it just for the character slots, might seem like a waste but play the orignal and complete it then get your orignal chars up to the first mission on factions but don't play it yet...once you got all your chars up to the first faction mission which should take a month see whats chaged since then if there are still complaints then go and get all the elite skills in the orignal for all your chars that'll take anouther month then unlock on the professions in the desert on each char...and if it still hasn't been fixed since then explore of tyria and get some titles up.

Im currently going for the drunkerd title lol 10000mins drunk I will get it = D
so don't be afraid to buy it. The way I did is I have 6 chars all PVE chars as its loads more fun that way in my view...I have R/W, W/mo, N/me, E/mo, Monk yet to be made and A/R. I'm using the assain just to get my money's worth and play threw factions up to the mission were all my other chars get involved that way I know about the story and don't feel i've rushed. I mean only two of my chars are level 20 that is my W/mo and R/W and I want to make em have more than one profession like W/R and R/Me it'll be trickey yeah but once you get into factions they really give away skill points which is good as its so hard getting them in the orignal...But yeah I refuse to play factions past the first mission point as I love what I see so far cetainly now my necro doesn't wear bra and underwear for her energy boost armor anymore -_-.

Did anyone else feel so intimidated when your char had to wear skimpy clothes in order to have good armor lol I tell you my W/mo got harrased so many times on the game with the male warrior dance (its a female warrior btw ^^) and why did she well she wore a bra and underwear with a bit of platemail on it (this is 15k glads im talking about here btw) but the same happens to my necro and her energy armor which I really do need during tough missions and quests... its as if the person who made armor was a perv or something. ^^

I seriously don't understand why they schedule every single "special" event on the most idiotic of days (Wintersday anyone? Sorry guys, I can't come to the New Years party because I need to wait for my Santa hat). Don't think so.

Tip: Try scheduling on the weekends for a change AND try making them last 48hrs instead of 24. You might be surprised
